Focus on Japan
Level two of the Fluency Course is designed for students who have completed level 1, or are otherwise used to reading longer (100-300 word) texts.
The focus of the course is on Japan. Students read about the geography, history, and culture of various areas around Japan.
There are two reasons to focus on Japan. First, the mostly familiar content makes it easier for students to understand the reading passages, and many of them find it interesting to learn about their own country. Also, any students who travel abroad or talk to short-term foreign visitors in Japan will likely end up answering questions about Japan. This level of the Fluency Course gives them the language and the content to do so.
The sample below is from a previous version of Textbook 2a. It includes the text index and the three texts from unit 1. It does not include the latest formatting, the vocabulary, or the essay writing activities included in the forthcoming 2021 version, but should give an idea of the level and length of texts, as well as the subject matter. Once we have finished formatting the latest version we will upload a new sample!
